A Step-by-Step Guide
Blocking someone on social media is a quick way to protect your peace and privacy. Here’s how to do it on major platforms in 2025 (with tips to stay safe!):
1. Instagram
- Open the person’s profile.
- Tap the ••• (three dots) in the top right.
- Select Block → Confirm.
- Bonus: Check Block messages if you want to stop DMs too.
2. Facebook
- Go to the profile you want to block.
- Click the ••• (three dots) below their cover photo.
- Choose Block → Block [Name].
- Note: They won’t be able to tag you, see your posts, or add you as a friend.
3. Twitter/X
- Open the user’s profile.
- Tap the ••• (three dots) on their profile.
- Select Block → Block again to confirm.
- Tip: Mute instead if you just want to hide their tweets without them knowing.
4. TikTok
- Go to the person’s profile.
- Tap the ☰ (three lines) in the top right.
- Hit Block → Confirm.
- FYI: Blocking removes you from their follower list and vice versa.
5. Snapchat
- Open the chat with the person.
- Tap their profile icon.
- Click the ⚙️ (settings) → Block → Confirm.
- Heads up: Blocked friends can’t send Snaps or view your Story.
What Happens When You Block Someone?
- They can’t view your profile, posts, or contact you.
- They won’t be notified you blocked them (but they might notice).
- You can unblock them later if you change your mind (steps vary by app).
Extra Safety Tips
- Report Abuse: If they’re harassing you, use the Report option.
- Restrict/Mute: For less drama, use Restrict (Instagram) or Mute (Twitter) to hide their activity without blocking.
- Check Privacy Settings: Limit who can message or tag you.
